Our unique Saturday eat-away

After work today, we decided to drive around town and see random places for some gastronomic adventure. Here’s what we discovered:

Majilis Al Shamali – Female Housing Complex (Qatar Foundation)

During weekends, they are only open for Education City students and staff. While from Sunday to Thursday, they are open to everybody.  They serve breakfast from 7am to 11am, lunch from 12pm-4pm, and dinner from 5pm to 9pm. For a very affordable price, you can have a buffet selection of main course, soup, dessert and beverages. I’ve always wanted to give this a try and we thought it was a good chance to do it today.

Katara Beachside

Out of curiosity for some new developments in the area, we went straight to Katara after lunch. Upon entering the complex on another gate, we immediately saw the Magical Festival Village which we failed to visit when it opened earlier this year. However, we were told that it is set to re-open by November 2016 in time for the winter season. We also checked out the Splash Water Park before heading to our next destination.

Monoprix Qatar

Upon passing by Westbay area, we visited my brother’s workplace at Monoprix in Palm Towers. It is a French retail chain which will open their biggest branch in the soon to open Mall of Qatar.  It’s not the typical grocery that we see around Doha. With the wide array of French products on display and with many European customers around, you would feel as if you’re not in Doha. Honestly, we came to see if there are  items on sale, but there was none available today. Sometimes, they would have french ice cream boxes for as low as Q5, frozen seafoods for as low as Q10 and many more. These promo items sell out really really fast.

If you happen to drop by anytime soon and felt a craving for coffee, salad or a sweets, you can check out their small bar located close to the counter.

MIA Park Bazaar

We’ve been here several times, but we felt that there were more stalls and more visitors today compared to before. Surprisingly, we also saw few Filipino stalls selling local souvenirs, apparels made from the Philippines, and our all-time favorite pinoy street foods. It feels great to see not only Filipino products getting more exposures in Doha’s expat community but also seeing the entrepreneurial spirit of our kababayans side by side other nationalities here in Qatar.

The weather was also getting more and more ideal for families to make it a picnic date every Saturdays.
