The first weekend of Shop Qatar’s month-long festival was concluded at the Doha Corniche last Saturday (January 14) following its Grand Opening at the Mall of Qatar last January 7th. We could expect more happenings on the next three weeks as every weekends bring different surprises for everyone’s pleasure and enjoyment.
Held at the Oryx statue of the picturesque Doha Corniche, several food trucks and food stalls offering a variety of snack foods, a giant screen showing an animated arabic film for the kids, and a daily fireworks display were the highlights of the 3-day weekend event.
Burgeri (a Qatari brand inspired by the vintage American diner) and Churros were the most popular among the food trucks/stalls with more people lining up for their delicious burgers, fries, hotdog sandwiches and churros of either plain or rich chocolate toppings.
What i liked about the event was that it was an opportunity for young Qatari entrepreneurs to showcase their products and their business skills. In a rich nation like Qatar where the expat’s influence can be overwhelming, it is necessary to develop the skills of the younger generations who will preserve and continue the culture and the legacies of the present leaders. This is what I’ve found while searching for the significance of some of the logos displayed around the venue. Supported by Bedaya Center for Entrepreneurship and Career Development, together with other lead organizers such as Qatar Tourism Authority and Qatar Foundation – #ShopQatar is a platform for these young Qatari to bring forth their business ideas to the world. Indeed, a Brand New Tradition has just started!
We as expats, could learn from it too and be inspired to do it back in our country and even encourage our children to consider becoming an entrepreneur when they grow up.
