WHEN IT RAINS, IT POURS. And the awards keep on coming for our Kabayan photographer who has been reaping recognition for his passion in photography. Last August, one of his photos was given the Best Photo Award during the Filipino exhibit held at Katara – “Qatar Through Filipino Lenses”. He won an all-expenses paid trip from Doha to Manila via our very own flag carrier – Philippine Airlines. And just recently, his photo was chosen as the 1st Prize Winner at the SeeMyDoha Mobile Photography Contest earning him a vacation to Oman (FREE air ticket and 5-star hotel accommodation).
Last October 8, 2017, we were invited to the opening ceremonies of the SeeMyDoha Exhibition at the popular artist’s destination – the Art 29 of W Doha Hotel. It is located at the 29th floor of the hotel and is now the city’s latest dedicated art space which has hosted several arts exhibition including “Tamim the Glorious” of Mr. Ahmed Bin Majed Al-Maadheed.
The SeeMyDoha Exhibition features a great selection of photos taken from mobile phones and entered to a contest organized by Jaidah Automotive with the aim “to portray Doha in a new, creative and inspirational way, reflecting people’s unique experiences”. Fitting enough, street and travel photography is our grand winner’s expertise since the time he started clicking the shutter more than 5 years ago.
Photography as a hobby
Mr. Richard Limbo started photography since 2012. As a self-taught photography hobbyist, he shared that he learned the tricks only by watching Youtube videos. Without much formal training, he gained experience by doing solo photowalks and by joining several events in Doha. His work has been featured in several magazines and also won several competitions including the latest in SeeMyDoha Mobile Photography Contest.
In a quick chat with him after the announcement of the winners, he shared the time when the winning photo was taken. It was through a used phone that they bought which was broken few days after taking the shot. He also said that he is fond of lines and symmetry as well as in taking black and white photos as it shows more soul.
In the caption of his winning shot, it was mentioned that he is “working in Al Khalij Commercial Bank as a tea boy since December 2011”. His passion in photography is sure to be his greatest escape and a source of joy after work. Now, he is considered as a Premier Street and Travel Photographer by his peers.
See My Doha Exhibition at Wdoha Hotel
The exhibit will run from 8th to 18th of October, 2017 and it is also a delight to see fellow bloggers like #Qatareats and #Nashplateful landing as one of the contest’s finalist and Jury’s Choice, respectively.
The experience was fun and it’s great to see people who recognizes you and encourages you in what you are doing. It was an awesome feeling not only to be “just present” but actually to have a chance to talk to them and share some thoughts as well… eventually building friendship beyond the realms of the social media.
