MEGU – THE PEARL: A Japanese Food Trip

A dim-lit, high-ceiling restaurant, a scenic view of The Pearl, and a sumptuous Japanese cuisine… these are perfect ingredients for a truly magical night.

We’ve been to MEGU on several occasions with family and friends. It excites us to visit again via an invitation to feature them on the blog. Not only that it brings back good memories of our recent trip to the lovely city of Tokyo but it also give us an opportunity to try out one of Doha’s award-winning modern Japanese restaurant.

SIGNATURE DRINKS

SPIRIT OF JAPAN. A colorful layered cranberry and fresh orange juice with blue curacao.

TOKYO PASSION. Muddled fresh passion fruit with mint leaves topped with sprite.

APPETIZERS

Elegant and delicious Uramaki (inside and rolls) , specially chosen ingredients are wrapped with rice and nori, ideal for dipping in soy sauce with a touch of wasabi. (8ps per serving)

ROCK AND ROLL. Crab meat and avocado roll topped with rock shrimp, wasabi mayo, and mango sauce.

CRAZY CALIFORNIA ROLL. Crab meat and avocado roll topped with Japanese mayo and tobiko.

These are the two best selling uramakis at Megu Qatar and served in a grand platter style to give you that modern Japanese welcome.

MEGU CRISPY ASPARAGUS. A house favorite, delicately battered asparagus stems are shallow fried for crispy texture with kaki no tane. One of the stars of the show for us… unusual yet very tasty.

CRAB AND WAKAME SALAD. Crab and caviar sit amongst wakame seaweed, julienne cuts of cucumber, and crispy wonton with Japanese style mayonnaise. This is a perfect light appetizer while waiting for your mains.

MEGU KANZURI SHRIMPS. Battered and coated with Megu’s blend of kanzuri creamy sauce.

MAINS

KIDS MENU: YAKI SOBA. Traditional grilled buckwheat noodles and white onions, carrots, mix bell peppers and cabbage with choice of chicken, beef or shrimp.

ANGUS BEEF TERIYAKI. Pan fried beef glazed with teriyaki sauce served on kimchi cucumber salad and fried onion rings with white sesame seeds.

DESSERTS

AZUKI CHOCOLATE FONDANT. Rich chocolate cake with an oozing melted chocolate filling served with ice cream.

SPOTTED AT MEGU

Since it was not our first time at Megu, the blogger invitation was an opportunity to have access to some private areas which would otherwise be restricted to public.

I went upstairs with the Restaurant Manager for a gorgeous birds eye view of the restaurant. This could be a good dining area too once opened.

There’s also a private nook with a nice view of the Pearl… ideal for that “you and me” time.

Want to dine privately? Checkout their Dragon Rooms. Advance reservation is required.

MEGU was created to cater to a more upscale clientèle, offering a modern and contemporary take on traditional Japanese dishes. View this link from their main website (megu@hdc-glocal.com) for the complete menu.
