Acts of Generosity in times of COVID-19 | Qatar Updates

Indeed, these trying times will bring out the best in us. It has been over two months since the government of Qatar proactively campaigned against the spread of Corona Virus, thus implementing safety precautions among its citizens and residents. Notable of which are the closure of malls, dine-in restaurants, public parks, and prohibition of public gatherings and events, and very recently, imposing a QR200,000 fine for those who are not wearing masks when going out of their homes.

But aside from the observance of Ramadan, we saw a great measure of generosity being given by different organizations and companies in Qatar. Here are some of them:

QATAR CHARITY

As a result of the interruption of large business sectors due to the precautionary measures taken by the government to confront and contain the emerging Corona Virus, there are many groups that are finding it difficult to provide for their daily nutritional needs. Qatar Charity provides food baskets to the needy through a simple procedure whereby the needs are estimated and the value of the subsidy is approved. Once approved, you will receive an SMS with a coupon number to redeem on food items from any Meera branch in Qatar.

QATAR GOVERNMENT

We’ve heard from the news about how a Filipino expatriate who has survived COVID-19 disease was very much grateful for Qatar’s exceptional and FREE healthcare and dedicated health workers which, he says, were key to his fast recuperation. Aside from the medical infrastructures, world-class facilities and staff, and other government support and initiatives, Qatar is in the best position to combat the ongoing pandemic and minimize the spread of the disease among its people.

The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) in cooperation with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Primary Health Care Clinic (PHCC) are working hand in hand to provide the much needed medical attention to all the patients as well advisories for the public.

For COVID-19 Self-Assessment: TOLL FEE HOTLINE 16000

Anyone who has symptoms of Covid-19 should either quickly contact the 16000 helpline or go directly to one of the designated health centers for testing the virus. This is important as the earlier the disease is detected the easier it will be to receive the right treatment and recover from it.

The four main testing centres are:

  • Muaither Health Centre;
  • Rawdat Al Khalil Health Centre;
  • Um Slal Health Centre; and,
  • Al Gharafa Health Centre.

Aside from that, the government has also mandated both government and private companies on salaries and compensations for affected employees. Earlier reports also mentioned a multi-billion economic and financial stimulus package that was part of a series of directives by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to support and sustain the country during the Covid-19 pandemic.

SPREADING KINDNESS IN TIMES OF NEED

The outpouring support and generosity isn’t only evident in the government’s efforts but more so in the little hands being offered by the citizens of Qatar. From personally giving help and assistance to friends who are in need, out of work, and helpless – to volunteer works as evident in the significant support gathered since the launch of the “For the Sake of Qatar” in March. This campaign has gathered more than 35,000 citizens and residents who have stepped forward to volunteer in Qatar’s fight against COVID-19.
