What is the Architectural Inspiration of Education City Stadium?
Shape: | Education City Stadium has a design that draws on the rich history of Islamic architecture, blending it with striking modernity. It has been given the nickname “Diamond in the Desert”. The façade features triangles that form complex, diamond-esque geometrical patterns, appearing to change colour with the sun’s movement across the sky. By night, the façade puts on a colourful light show, making it even more eye-catching. Like diamonds, the stadium’s design represents quality, durability and resilience, and will become something to be treasured – both for the memories it holds and its future value to the country and region. |
Special Features: | The stadium’s position in Education City has been carefully chosen with accessibility in mind, particularly for fans with disabilities. However they arrive, fans will only travel a short distance to their seats along shaded, tree-lined paths – giving them just enough time to enjoy a spectacular view of the venue. As they arrive, fans will see many green spaces and state-of-the-art amenities surrounding the venue, all built with an eye on sustainability and the future. Facilities include football training pitches, a golf course and shops. |
Contractors: | The project manager for the stadium was ASTAD Project Management, while Fenwick Iribarren Architects served as the original concept lead designer. The main works contractor was JPAC JV, who appointed Pattern as the design architect, Salfo as the site lead designer and BuroHappold for engineering design. |

What are the plans for Education City Stadium after FIFA 2022?
Long after the FIFA World Cup 2022™ is over, the stadium complex will remain a focal point of the community. Training pitches, and other sporting and non-sporting facilities radiate outwards from the stadium, all within easy reach of the local academic community.
The stadium’s most direct contribution to international development will come after it has hosted matches through to the quarter-finals stage of the tournament. The arena’s capacity will be reduced by half and 20,000 seats will be donated to build stadiums in developing countries, helping cultivate a passion for the game around the globe.

This reduction in capacity will also add to the intimate, inclusive feeling created by the venue’s ultramodern curves, which encircle fans and keep the atmosphere firmly in the arena.
Education City’s students, faculty and staff can also use these facilities. For decades to come, Education City Stadium will be a symbol of innovation, sustainability and progress, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the goals of Qatar Foundation.
