Last night, I got to watch the first two episodes of the latest K-dramas: DOCTOR LAWYER and WHY HER. Both legal series premiered on June 3 and were off to a good start.
SBS’ “Why Her?,” starring Seo Hyun Jin and Hwang In Yeop, recorded an average rating of 6 percent nationwide during episode 1 and soaring to 6.4 percent during episode 2, ranking first in the head-to-head battle for Friday-Saturday 10 p.m. (KST) time slot with its competitor, “Doctor Lawyer,” which stars So Ji Sub and Im Soo Hyang on MBC, starting with a high rating of 5.2 percent nationwide during episode 1 but slightly decreased at 4.2 percent during episode 2, according to kdramastars.com.
I would say “I’m on Disneyland” knowing that I’m off to an exciting weekend with these two dramas – at least for the next two weeks. Oftentimes, I prefer to watch them on the same day of their Korean release (just needed to wait for a few hours for the subtitles) as I enjoy it so much as the story builds up every two episodes per week and the break adds up to the excitement.
My first impression of DOCTOR LAWYER (seeing the first two episodes) led me to realize the sad truth about the usual, seemingly becoming normal – INJUSTICE in our society. While building a solid career, others who only thought of themselves, their business, reputation, and personal motives can frame someone, put them in jail, and lose everything that they’ve worked for in just a snap of a finger. How others can turn your truth into lies overnight… and flawlessly… is something that gives me a shiver, a feeling of frustration and hopelessness – I could almost utter, “they must pay in the end”.
I’m excited to see the story as it unfolds. See the story brief here: https://mydramalist.com/701871-doctor-lawyer
My first impression of WHY HER (after seeing the first episode only – it was too late for the second one) is about a power struggle, especially of a lady lawyer trying to prove that she is the best in their law firm by beating the male-dominated industry. The second episode teaser is almost leading me to think of the same situation as DOCTOR LAWYER “when one of her cases takes an unexpected turn, she was forced to watch as all of her hard work comes crumbling down around her.”
