BREAKING NEWS || Opening ceremony and match brought forward one day as stand-alone event, according to FIFA. Originally scheduled for November 21, 2022, the new FIFA WORLD CUP 2022 Opening Ceremonies will be preponed to November 20, 2022. This stand alone event will feature the host country Qatar playing against Ecuador.
“The change ensures the continuity of a long-standing tradition of marking the start of the FIFA World Cup with an opening ceremony on the occasion of the first match featuring either the hosts or the defending champions,” FIFA said in a statement.
Here’s how the new schedule will look like. Note that only Novemebr 20 and November 21 schedules have been affected and the rest of the schedules remain the same.

In the original schedule (NOVEMBER 21 OPENING DAY), the match schedules will be as follows:
13:00 SENEGAL vs NETHERLANDS (Al Thumama Stadium)
16:00 ENGLAND vs IRAN (Khalifa Internatioanl Stadium)
19:00 QATAR vs ECUADOR (Al Bayt Stadium) | OPENING CEREMONIES
22:00 USA vs WALES (Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium)
The new schedule will now look like this:
NOVEMBER 20
19:00 QATAR vs ECUADOR (Al Bayt Stadium) | OPENING CEREMONIES – moved to one day earlier, same time
NOVEMBER 21
16:00 ENGLAND vs IRAN (Khalifa International Stadium) – unchanged
19:00 SENEGAL vs NETHERLANDS (Al Thumama Stadium) – moved to the previous time schedule of Qatar vs Ecuador
22:00 USA vs WALES (Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium) – unchanged

Due to these changes, the 100-days countdown leading to the most awaited FIFA WORLD CUP 2022 officially begins on AUGUST 12 (Friday).
